We encountered typical Singapore weather at the trip to Bishan Park: high humidity, normal Singapore temperature and low wind speeds.  We also tried to take note of the purposes of facilities near the river. Firstly, most of the river was far away from the roads and footpaths to protect the people and the river. We also took note of where the river was going and where it came from. We were amazed to find that the river was actually generally long, spanning from the lower pierce reservoir all the way to the park and then through higways eventually ending up in the beautiful Marina Bay.

From the sketch, we find that there are many cluster and group of trees near the river. THer is also an abunance of semi-aquatic plants along the river bank and in the river, suggesting good quality water in the river. THer is also a rock footpath along the river encouraging and facilitating park-goers to get near the river and maybe enjoy it.

From the sketch above, we find that there is an abundance of tall grass and weeds near the river, suggesting that the river water is irrigated naturally to faciliate the growth of tall grass and other plants. There is also an abundance of trees and semi-aquatic plants, once again suggesting good quality water. There is also a pavillion for people to rest near the river and seats for people to enjoy the river along its bank.

Introduction

During our visit to the Kallang River at the Bishan -Ang Mo kio park, we saw some pollution such as bottles and plastic in the river and some other types of rubbish at the river bank. The river and the river banks were not as clean as we expected. There were many plants there at the park, we were fortunate enough not to only see plants,  but we managed to see insects and some animals as well. There were many trees in the park, and the air was rather fresh. The water quality was generally clean besides the litter in the river. While doing the water- testing at the river bank, we managed to see a turtle and many different types of fishes. We saw a very well-maintained ecosystem.

                     GI questions

We created questions before our trip to the park in order to have a orderly and effective trip to the park. We had aimed to look carefully for litter and signs of pollution and to be observant for activities that could affect the water quality.

What is the quality of water in the waterway?

How do human activities affect the quality of water in the waterway?

Our research at the park

We came to the park and had split the job where Joel was to make field sketches and make observations of the surroundings, while Matthew would take photographs of the water test done by the teachers and snap photographs of litter and activites surrounding the quality of the water in the park. We managed to do an all-rounded research and even was armed with information of the surronudings at the time and the water test and reasons behind them. We then got together and discussed the issues and our findings about the river in Bishan Park. We present our evidences under the tab "Findings".
